As the time is passing by, researches in various fields are increasing day by day all over the world. Due to these researches only, new technologies are evolving at a very rapid rate. As the researches are on an increase day by day, the job of a lab technician is getting more and more difficult. A lab technician has various responsibilities over his head.
Mostly, all the researches are conducted in labs only. There are different labs related to different fields. So, the responsibilities of a lab technician of different labs are also different. But, to some extent lab technicians of every field share common responsibilities. Different fields having lab technicians are clinical, dental, medical appliance, ophthalmic etc.
Lab technicians are essential persons at any laboratory. But, they are much needed in the laboratory relating to medical field. The lab technicians form the support of the laboratory. Without them it is very difficult to perform a single task. Lab technicians help in conducting basic tests, preparing and maintaining equipments in laboratory and various other responsibilities.
The first and foremost responsibility of a lab technician is to maintain a lab. Lab technicians are required in setting up and cleaning of the equipment present in the laboratory. They have to report if there is any damage in the equipments and report for the repair of these equipments.
They have to monitor about the new equipments and compounds which the lab is in need of. T they also monitor if the old supplies are in a perfect or not. It is the lab technician who is blamed for deficiency of the required things
They have to monitor for all the supplies because if there is a deficiency in the basic supplies, then it is not possible to perform for any of the tests. The basic supplies needed in a lab are slides and chemicals to perform tests.
In the laboratories related to medical and clinical fields, there are scores of tests which are performed on a daily basis. Lab technicians are responsible for performing these basic tests. Though the doctors and scientists can perform these basic tests, but not all tests need their expertise consent. As lab technicians are able to perform for these tests so it becomes easy for expert people to devote their precious time in other important things.
The other responsibility of a lab technician is keeping up the record of all happenings in the lab. Their job is not limited to just testing and maintenance of lab equipment. They keep track of al the specimens present in the lab, whether the specimens are labeled and numbered properly or not etc. Lab technicians have to keep track of all the major stock present in the lab.
The records also include which chemical was ordered for, in what amount it was ordered for, and when it was ordered for. This is done to decide the annual budget needed for the next financial year.
Apart from all the above responsibilities there are some other responsibilities which are to be taken care of.
