A Medical Laboratory Technician can be defined as a certified person to manage the things supervised by a lab technologist or a scientist who plays a major part in part and parcel of the projects undergoing in the laboratory. One of the most emerging jobs from many days in the country is “A Medical lab Technician” job. It is one of the quicker paths to enter the medical career. There is a lot of respect given for it in the society because it is one of the places where application of practice on the subject (theory) comes into the picture. There are some levels in the medical laboratory jobs, Technologists and technicians are also a part of it. There is a small difference between a lab technologist and a technician. Both of them may be certified in the same organization, but technicians may have less training than the professionals. Apart from these there are some situations which doesn’t differentiate them and consider all of them in general as “Lab Tech’s“. Technologists work on the major areas of the laboratory while technicians assist them. As the technician’s work can’t be learnt solely, practice is required on the subject. For that there are number of accredited schools with reputation, which provide various courses regarding the works in laboratory. If we complete the course, they certify us and then we are ready for searching the jobs.The courses like Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT), Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) are offered for lab technicians. Apart from these, there are some certificate/Diploma courses in general. There is a possibility for a technician to become a technologist through some experience in work and further education. Once certified, a technician may find challenging career options depending on his academic and technical skills.
The complexity of work assigned to the technician depends on the amount of education and experience they possess. Lab technicians are generally assigned to the specialized areas where there is a chance for them to excel in a particular field of their stream. Working conditions are not confined; they depend on the tasks they are handling. Most of the technician jobs are generally done in hospitals while the remaining are done in ambulatory care units, National Health organizations, university research teams, funded research programs, private or government labs.. Job opportunities are expected to be excellent, because the number of jobs available is more than number of job seekers.
But since 1970, the numbers of technicians programs are getting declined and the only reason for it is the difference in the income levels of them and the other healthcare workers (it is almost half of their salary). So these worsened conditions are to be improvised to handle the things and the way it can be done is, conducting the awareness programs among the students of medicine, through which the need for more people to enter the profession can be conveyed.
